About GoBigHub

GoBigHub is a for profit social enterprise franchise with a 10 year target of being in 1,000 African cities, contributing to 1% of Africa’s GDP through city based franchises promoting small business productivity by connecting them to micro private equity financing and mentorship.

At GoBigHub, we believe that the two greatest challenges facing Africa, that is, unemployment, and poverty, can best be solved through supporting small businesses to become scalable, profitable, and sustainable.

We do this through providing micro private equity financing of not more than USD. 10,000; connecting entrepreneurs to investors at 5% commission; celebrating employers by asking employees to purchase for them gifts; and transforming and transforming micro enterprises into investible, profitable, sustainable, and scalable enterprises through mentorship and strategic advice (Inua Kijana Fellowship); and (3), celebrating employers (#The Day Of The Entrepreneur).

How GoBigHub Works

GoBigHub seeks to increase productivity, scalability and sustainability of micro enterprises across Africa, by connecting entrepreneurs to investors, celebrating entrepreneurs, and transforming micro enterprises into scalable businesses through mentorship.

GoBigHub is leading the move away from grants, promoting trade, not aid. GoBigHub charges 5% of the successful deals arranged or 10% management fee on revenue.

GoBig gets entrepreneurs who want micro capital, basically, less than USD. 5,000, and connects them to local individuals or institutions. For instance, a brick laying young man needs UGX. 350,000 and sales will be UGX. 2,3 million after twelve months. A mother in Wakiso wants 2.5 million to finish her poultry house, and a further 2 million to stock it with 500 birds. Returns are 114% within two months. Then the best earners, agri businesses, which take between 3-4 months (onions, pumpkin, tomatoes, etc). There are people coming with land, 1 acre, 2 acres, etc, wanting a partner. We have so far concluded deals worth UGX. 45 million, and exit timelines are within 6 -8 months, except for a passion farm in Iganga, where we will take a little more time to exit, upto two years. So, how do you get in?

We send you potential investment opportunities, then you pick one, then you ask as many questions as possibel for due diligence, and when satisfied, to an extent, of the risks, and return profile, then you can choose to finance it wholly (usually not more than USD. 1,000), or to offer part finance, and the moment we raise total financing, we close the project round, produce a joint venture agreement, which is signed, and then registered with the government.

Now, you can also get involved in another way. Get a few friends, as a fellow Ugandan did in New York, to contribute a micro capital fund, and then, we identify projects and you invest in them. We, at GoBigHub, will retain 10% of revenue at exit, as management costs, so that we are your eyes in the project, or just a simple 5% commission for connecting the deal.

GoBigHub Investment Principles

We have seen a growing portfolio of investment in several projects by gobighub.com, guided by four (4) key principles

Principle 1: Returns on investment: Every investor should invest guided by what they want at the end of the investment period, or, at exit. On this, we have investments that promise 5% per month and others are equity investments, unsecured, but with higher returns on investment.

Principle 2: Risk of losing the investment: The main task of an investor is to first, not lose the principal. So, some entrepreneurs offer security, or guarantees. In certain instances, GoBigHub offers a security cheque, and shares in the promised profitability, on 50:50 basis, guaranteeing both principal, and return on principal. These are discussed on case by case basis, so that the risk exposure to GoBigHub is compensated.

Principle 3: Cost of investing: Every investment requires some costs, to be paid to the people who bring opportunities, like stock brokers, commission agents, etc. For this case, gobighub.com, charges 5% of the invested amount. This is shared between entreprenuer (2.5%), and investor (2.5%). In most cases, investors cover this cost entirely.

Principle 4: Cashflow and Legal Due Diligence: We review all applications based on two guidelines of due diligence, namely’: legal and cashflow due diligence. Cashflow due diligence focuses on proof of present and increasing revenue, net profits, and positive net cashflow. Legal due diligence focuses on proof of legality of entrepreneur and enterprise, including bank accounts, guarantors, tax numbers, legal registration, address, FACT check, credit reference check, security, and investment contract drafting and or review.

How To Invest Through GoBig Hub Platform

There are two ways to invest through GoBigHub platforms

Investing: Directly in Enterprises: An investor can choose to invest in direct enterprises (the preferred option by over 90% of investors), which gives direct touch, and feel, by entrepreneurs. Such kind of investment, means the entrepreneur and investor have a direct, contractual relationship, and gobighub.com is only a facilitator.
